Who We Are
We are Paws and Prayers. Our primary mission is to rescue, care for, and find loving homes for homeless cats and dogs. Our secondary goal is to make sure all of these animals are spayed or neutered. It is a big task, but we are ready! Paws and Prayers is based in the Northeast Ohio region. We operate as a non-profit, incorporated organization that functions solely on the efforts of foster homes and adoption volunteers. As such, we may not always be able to respond to your emails and applications immediately. We are all volunteers, and will do the best we can to get back to you in a timely fashion. Please allow us one week to respond to your inquiries. Thank you.

Would you like to be added to our weekly email?

Every Friday we send out an email listing of all our available pets and our weekend events. If you would like to be kept "in the loop", just let us know. This email is a great way for you to help our pets. Simply forward it on to ANYONE you know that is looking for a pet!! If you would like to receive our weekly email, please click the SUBSCRIBE link to send an email to our emailing list manager, just put "add me" in the subject line!!!

Our Featured Dog...
Maximus--- HELPt Tuffy - Tuffy is a small Yorkshire Terrier, yorkie for those who fondly know the breed. He is the nicest little guy who has had an awful life. He was hit by a car and his pelvis was broken in four places. The surgery was only partially successful and he is still dragging his legs. He actually needs another operation which will cost the rescue around $1,200. As you can probably guess, we go from adoption to adoption and donation to donation and have very little in extra funds as we medically treat and spay and neuter all animals. If you could find it in your heart to help this little guy, please send any monetary donations to Tuffy Fund, % Paws and Prayers, P.O. Box 2864, Akron, Ohio 44309-2864. He will truly appreciate it. We thank you and Tuffy thanks you. To contact Paws and Prayers, please email pawsandprayers@neo.rr.com . Hope to be hearing from you. .
Our Featured Dog...
Maximus--- HELPt Allie - Allie is a beautiful black and brown(brindle) shepherd/boxer mix girl with white paws and some chest speckling. She has a one of a kind look and only is between 35-40 pounds total and around 2 years old. She is super smart and would make an excellent agility dog. She can jump, run and play harder than any dog we know. She probably would not be great with toddlers due to her exuberance, but kids over 8 would have lots of fun with this girl. To adopt Allie PLEASE DO OUR APPLICATION ON LINE. If you have any questions about her, please email toypudel@lek.net or mharbin@neo.rr.com or call 330-877-0400 to see her. She is waiting! email us . Please fill out an application.

Adopting a Friend
Since we operate solely out of foster homes and have no permanent shelter, you will need to make an appointment to meet an animal or you can visit us at one of our Petsmart public showings. We show some of our available dogs and do adoptions most weekends at the Chapel Hill Petsmart, located at 355 Howe Road, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Generally, we are there Saturdays from 11-2 pm and Sundays from 11-2 pm. Be there when we are and get your NEW BEST FRIEND! Remember, you can still schedule individual showings with dogs you would like to meet.

If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting one of our lovely animals, please email us. If you are serious about adopting, you will need to fill out an application. We charge $150 for dog adoptions (with the exception of certain pure breed dogs which we charge up to $200 for at this time due to staggering medical costs; these will be listed in their write ups) and $90 for cats (we do very few cats unless we get a one-time foster who is willing to keep the cat until placement). This goes towards the cost of rescuing and medical expenses, which includes spaying or neutering.

Surrendering a Dog

SURRENDERING YOUR DOG TO THE POUND IS NOT YOUR ONLY OPTION!
If you are willing to give us a chance we will help you to find a home for your dog.
1. We will list your dog on 2 national pet adoptions websites.
2. You can bring your dog to any of our adoption events to show him/her to the public.
3. We will screen all potential adopters to make sure that the new owners will take good care of your dog.
4. We will make sure that your dog is spayed/neutered before they are adopted and that they get all appropriate shots.
5. If we have a foster spot open, we can take your dog into foster, but until then, we ask that they remain in your care.
6. We will come and meet your dog to screen him/her to make sure that they do not have behavioral issues that would make them dangerous to adopt.
.
We know this is a tough decision, wouldn’t you feel better knowing that your dog was going to a good home?

If you would like us to help you place your dog please email us the following information. 2 pictures of your dog. Breed, sex, weight, last time they were to vet, and are the fixed. Also, please let us know if they have any behavorial issues. If you want, you can write a little about their personality, since you know them best, we will use this in their online ad. Please send your email to pawsandprayers@neo.rr.com.
.
How YOU Can Help
We are always looking for fosters and adoption volunteers. Fosters are people who are willing to open up their hearts and homes to nurture and care for a rescued animal until a permanent home can be found. It is up to the discretion of the foster on whether a dog can be adopted out of state. Many of them want to keep in contact with the pet and out of state adoptions make this a little more difficult. Please contact the email address listed with the pet as that is the foster person's email address in most cases. Paws and Prayers assists with food and pays for the medical care of the animals. Adoption volunteers assist the fosters by making runs to the vet, promoting the organization, and bringing animals to showings at places like Petsmart. Many of the animals we rescue are in dire need of medical care. We also ensure that the animals are spayed or neutered before they are adopted. These expenses add up! Our adoption fee helps cover at least some of this cost. However, donations are always much appreciated and put towards a very good cause!

* HELP! Many may ask where the adoption fee goes. The medical care, including shots, tests, and spay/neuter, generally exceed the fee. In addition, some of the animals we take require critical care as they have not been treated medically in some time. If you can help us at all, please send your donation to: Paws and Prayers Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 2864, Akron, Ohio 44309. We would appreciate any help you can give! *

The Top Ten Reasons to Adopt an Older Dog

1. Older dogs are housetrained. You won't have to go through the difficult stages of housetraining and cleaning up after accidents.
2. Older dogs are not teething puppies, and won't chew your shoes and furniture while growing up.
3. Older dogs can focus well because they've mellowed. Therefore, they learn quickly.
4. Older dogs have learned what "no" means. If they hadn't learned it, they wouldn't have gotten to be "older" dogs.
5. Older dogs settle in easily, because they've learned what it takes to get along with others and become part of a pack.
6. Older dogs are good at giving love. They are grateful for the second chance they've been given.
7. Older dogs have grown into their shape and personality. Puppies can grow up to be quite different from what they seemed at first.
8. Older dogs are instant companions -- ready for hiking, car trips, and other things you like to do.
9. Older dogs leave you time for yourself. They don't make the demands on your time and attention that puppies and young dogs do.
10. Older dogs let you get a good night's sleep because they're accustomed to human schedules.

Special Thanks
We would like to express a special thanks to the Home Savings Bank in Brimfield, Ohio, for allowing Paws & Prayers the opportunity to show some of our adoptable cats to the public. We appreciate their kindness and genuine love of animals!
